The Illumination at the Morton Arboretum is a wonderful winter activity for the entire family. This year it was held from November 22nd to January 4th. The paved one mile trail was full of surprises at every turn along with warming stations and tents offering hot drinks and even adult beverages. The event was sponsored by BMO Harris Bank and ComEd. It featured thousands of interactive LED lights. Some of the highlights this year included singing to trees as you watch them change colors, hug a tree and watch it light up, and even changing the colors of the lights with just the movement of a hand. The warming stations consisted of camp fires where guests could also make s’mores.

Tickets can be purchased for a reasonable price in advance at the Morton Arboretum’s website. The Arboretum did recommend the purchase of tickets in advance so guests would not have to wait in lines. This is a great idea as there were days that the event was sold out, but the weather may not cooperate for your chosen evening. Make sure to dress warm so that your family can enjoy the event and take the time to stop at the stations to interact and snap pictures.

Overall, the event was outstanding and is a great way to support the local Morton Arboretum during the winter months. Bring your camera and if you are the serious photographer, your tripod. Don’t forget to save some time for a browse through the gift shop. We will look forward to the future illumination events. It is a great way to spend time with family and friends or event entertain out of town guests during the holiday season.
